Privacy, in plain words

Last updated 3 August 2026

The short version: we ask a grown-up for their name, email address and phone number, and we use them to tell you once that the book is ready. We ask a child for a first name or nickname, and only so it can go on the leaderboard. We use no cookies, we do not sell anything to anyone, and we send nothing else.

What we collect

A grown-up's name, email address and phone number, and only if they type them in to be told when the book is available. Nothing on this site asks for any of it anywhere else.

We also save a scrambled version of the internet address the sign-up came from. It is put through a one-way scramble before it is stored, so it cannot be turned back into the original. We use it to stop the same person signing up thousands of times.

What we use it for

To tell you when Unicorn Questis available to buy. That is the whole plan. The name is so we can say hello properly rather than write “Dear subscriber”.

No newsletters, no other announcements, no advertising. We never sell your details, and we never pass them to anyone except the technical services that store our list and send that one message on our behalf.

The name on the leaderboard

If a child finishes one of the timed games, we ask for a first name or a nickname so their time can go on the leaderboard. That name and the time are saved on our server, because a leaderboard nobody can see is not a leaderboard. Nothing else is saved with it: no age, no email, no message, no way to get in touch.

The name is shown for a week, and deleted from our server after sixty days.

While you are playing, the name is kept in your browser so you are not asked again on the next game. It is thrown away the moment you close the tab. It never leaves your device except to go on the board.

You can pick any nickname you like. If you would rather not be on the board, do not type a name.

Cookies

This site does not use cookies. Not for advertising, not for analytics, not for anything. There is nothing to accept and no banner to dismiss.

The one thing we keep on your device is the name above, and only until the tab is closed.

What we do not keep

Apart from that name, children are not asked for anything we store. The name you give your unicorn in the builder stays in your own browser and is never sent to us.

If you email yourself a Unicorn Friendship Pass, we do not save the address or the picture. They are used to send that one message and nothing is written down.

We do not put anyone on a marketing list, and the phone number is not used for anything a grown-up did not ask for.

We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not build a profile of anyone.

How to stop it

Every email we send has an unsubscribe link. One click and we stop. We keep a note of the address so that our system knows never to email it again, and it is not used for anything else.

Changes

If any of this changes we will update this page and the date at the top. Since the only thing we ever send is that one launch email, we do not expect it to.
